Disco 3 Issues

Hi Guys, sorry if this is posted in the wrong place (im new)

I have some issues with my disco 3 and was hoping for some help.

Right - The car is a 2005 (05) Discovery 3 2.7 TDV6 which is fantastic (most of the time)

Unfortunately it is hesitant most of the time (there is twitching) when changing up a gear, the best way to describe it would be as its struggling to find the gear ( I did think this was torque converter but have been told otherwise) the car is an auto and this happens mostly when under load IE going up a hill but not always.

Having been told by a local car mechanic this was the EGR we went through with buying blanking plates off ebay but had a diagnostic guy out who said the problem is electronic as the codes are for sensors!

Still with me? So the car had a Range Rover software on (for whatever reason, possibly has a Range Rover ECU im told but who knows)

After several hours of head scratching we still have the exact same issue!

So to conclude I am told this could be down to the wrong ECU/Software in the car at the moment which is causing confusion between the Enginge/Transmission

I would be grateful if somebody could offer me advice on a software upgrade as I am told by a technician friend this COULD solve the problem. There is plenty of power throughout the rev range, it really does shift for a big car!

Sorry for the long write up guys, any help is HUGELEY appreciated!

The revs twitch - they go up and down as if the car is looking for the correct gear to change in to (initially I thought torque convertor) 146k miles - full service history

If you are driving flat out there isnt usually an issue, its around the 2k revs mark the revs go up and down, its hard to describe - its like its pulling the car up a gear but cannot select it

Given age and mileage I would firstly try a tube of Dr. Tranny - it's less than £10 and you can get from Steve at Advanced Factors (site sponsor).

http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/lubeguard...1799-p.asp

You will find plenty of threads on here (including my own) where it has been very successful in improving TC lock-up and stop the revs hunting.

If that works, I'd next invest in a gearbox flush (not just oil change) - forum member Geoff. will advise here. You will of course probably need to add another tube of Dr. T after the flush but it's small beer when compared to £2K + for a new TC / box.

You simply add it to the gearbox oil either through the normal filler hole on the side of the box. You need to get underneath and have the car running, box in Neutral to do this.

Or, you can add via the top cooler hose. Engine not running for this method, best it is left switched off for a couple of hours prior to trying this way and if possible, syringe some of the ATF out from the hose first else it will be a very slow process.

See here for detail
