Yes.
If you go to AULRO you will find this subject has been extensively discussed, and the consensus is that it should be changed every 80-90,000k. The metal pan and filter is a common fit as well as it allows a filter change a lot easier. Fuji White D4 2012. Hi Kev,
It was also discussed here - years before AULRO. 8)
CaverD3 and I had ATF changed and steel sump (with serviceable filter) on our D3s and got the parts direct from ZF in Sydney. We went halves in a 20L drum of ZF Lifeguardfluid 6.
I note there is a guy selling the parts required to do the service on the AULRO site - in the "Verandah" section.
Let me know if you need more information.
Cheers,
Rob

I'm coming up for ours soon, hard to believe we have done over 50,000ks since buying our D4 8)
I'm assuming the D4 needs the steel pan and filter as well

Hey Rob, So to do the auto transmission service would be difficult or not so? Just need the oh so expensive oil, filter and sump cover is it? Over here in Perth I'm being quoted between 850 to 1300 for the job as I'm booking in for 130,000 km service aswell. Ohhh the dollars.
Cheers

Hi Baz,
Mine just went over 49,000km.
Yes - same gearbox as D3 2.7, so steel pan with separate filter and ZF LifeguardFluid 6.
Did you see there is a supplier on Sydney Northern beaches area that is selling bits we need at a discount? He is in the verandah section of AULRO, company called "Furious Performance". Apparently the steel sump is from a BMW X5. Now you can match your wheels!

I just went through the list of parts, and here they are:
Land Rover - Discovery Series 3 2004 - 2009 Trans: ZF6HP26 Steel Sump Conversion: ZF6HP26-S0195* $275 - Normally $317.30
Land Rover - Discovery Series 3 2004 - 2009 Trans: ZF6HP26 Filter & Gasket suit Steel Sump: ZF6HP26-S0195 $45.00 - Normally $69.90
Land Rover - Discovery Series 3 2004 - 2009 Trans: ZF6HP26 Mechatronic Plug: ZF6HP26-S0195 $25.50 - Normally $33.00
*The steel sump conversion kit is a Genuine BMW sump it has a large filler plug in the sump and also an extra drain plug. Due to Chinese copy's of the normal sump with no plugs we sourced these along with a Genuine Filter, Gasket & Bolts. The Copies are prone to leak and not fit correctly.
LifeGuard 6 Fluid - suit ZF 6 speed Transmission
1 Litre Bottle: FLUID-S0601 $43.00 - Normally $54.95
20 Litre Drum: FLUID-S0620 $569.00
Happy to go halves with someone for the 20L drum of ATF.

Hi Mikes - as you can see from my previous post, even on sale, the price of parts is getting close to the lower price you were quoted. The reason your quotes are higher, is probably that you need a double flush of ATF. That doubles the cost of the ATF right there. Those quotes are pretty reasonable, imho.
Good luck!

Yeah righto cheers joneys. It does add up. It's a serious job and I'm pushed for time so I might go for my 850 quote. But thanks for the figures. Did you get them from TLO or here in au?
Cheers but I might doing the normal oil and filter changes at least. Beauty.

Those prices are about the same as buying direct from ZF in Sydney.

Thanks Garry - for reference, the 20L drum of ATF was about $529 when Caver and I went halves on one, about 2 years ago.
