The TD4 produces 157hp (117kW) and 400Nm of torque. (Or are you thinking of the SD4 - 188hp)
The TDV6 produces 197hp (145kW) and 440Nm of torque.
With the weight of the D3 you would not be getting far with the TD4.
Apart from that, there would be all the electronics and ancillaries to deal with too. The TD4 is mounted transversely in the FL2; you'd have to fit it in and connect it to the transmission somehow. The auto transmission would not perform well with less power too.
While anything is possible really, I think it would be fair to say it would not be cost effective.

there is plenty of engines about at the moment for cica 2500-3000 GBP??
why would you want to put a poor TD4 in a lump like a D3????FFRR SC 4.2
