Rear Brake pipes- Help please. |
|
I have spent the last 2 days trying to replace the rear brake pipes on 05 Disco. I have cut the pipes half way down the body and for the life of me i cannot make a double flare using 2 different sets of flange tools (trying to replace with copper pipe). It keeps slipping out the grip. -
Is there a way of stopping the brake fluid leak from the place i cut it?
Is there a way of replacing the whole pipes as i cannot see any way of accessing the connection within the engine compartment?
Any help would be great.
Many thanks in advance.

Replacing the entire pipework is a body off job, unfortunately, simply due to the run of the pipes.
I seem to recall that most folks on here join the new pipework to the old just underneath the front passenger seat.
Flack and Disco_Mikey have done a few of these I think. They may be along soon...

If you want to flare steel pipes on the vehicle then you really need one of these to do a proper job.

It is designed to do that, the cheap flaring tools you see are ok for copper but you will hard pushed to get the same quality flare as you would with one of these on steel pipes. IID PRO

That is the tool I have, albeit with some fancy add on's.
Mine was around £90 IIRC, and doesn't have the pipe cutter or pipe bender
Try flaring the steel pipe with an Op 2 (female flare) without doing the Op1 first. Much easier to flare the pipe outwards My D3 Build Thread

Disco_Mikey thanks- I will try that tomorrow when it light. Do you know of anyway to stop the flow of brake fluid. I have it bunged at the moment but it continues to drip all over the tools when i take off the bung to work.
Thanks again.

Ah the old 'jam the pedal to the floor' trick - Cheers (yet again) I may now be able to stop swimming in brake fluid!

I bought one these to do my brake pipes, and every flare was perfect, even my first one, and the difficult ones to get to. Great bit of kit.
Cheers

I had my pipe replaced prior to test last year by Newbury 4x4. You could give them a call on 01635 32028, they are a small independent specialist. I seem to remember the mechanic saying they do a lot of d3 pipes and splice in about half way.
Regards,
George
