MY14 black bits

Are any of the usual parts suppliers doing MY14 black bits yet, like lettering, grilles, front fog bezels, towing eye cover etc.... AFAIK they are all subtly different to previous MYs.

Or is it just going to be a case of getting part numbers and bending over at the stealers?

Anyone?

Why don't you just get them painted. I have started doing mine and they have turned out not bad so far. Thumbs Up

Try "Slimer" on this forum for some black bits like full length roof rails and side and front grills grills. I expect "Beanie" can also do a grill. Black lettering is available on the bay of evil except for part of the rear array and in my case I wet and dried those letters (after removing them) primed and top coated with gloss black before re-applying them.

Hi Bill. Did you remove the letters with a heat gun (carefully). What did you stick them back on with?

I used dental floss on a hot day with the motor parked in full sun. There will be a little residue that can be cleaned off with turps or petrol. I know people who have used a hair dryer successfully but don't get caught by the missus. Rolling with laughter .

The new letters for the front came with double sided tape already installed and in a paper template for ease of application. N.B. Before you remove the old letters, mark the outside/top/bottom of their array with masking tape and be millimetre perfect. This will ensure that you line the new template up correctly.

On the rear door, I marked the extremities of each letter with masking tape as they all came as individual letters. You may find that by now, LR do the rear sets in templates.

I hope that's helpful

My plan for the lettering on the bonnet and tailgate was just to paint them in plasti dip the same as the wheels and grill/side vents.

I obviously took the grill and vents off to paint them and I did the spare wheel to test how difficult it was to paint and see what the finish was like.

I think they turned out ok and if you do a search for plasti dip on here there are a lot of people who have used it with some success.

Good results with not a lot of expense. Thumbs Up

I too considered spraying the letters I had but the task of masking them was monumnental so I opted for new ones where I could. Thumbs Up

With the plasti dip your not supposed to mask the letters just mask a couple inches around the letters and spray that and the overspray peels off as it's a rubber paint.
If you go on YouTube and watch some of the videos it explains and shows you what to do. Thumbs Up

Dean

Looks the goods mate.

Did you just use the normal black matte Plastidip from a can, and how many coats did you use per wheel?

Just the normal matte black and 4 coats per wheel.

I bought a pack of six tins as I wasn't sure how much I needed for everything but I still have 3 tins left.

I still have to paint the lettering on the car but I'm still a fair bit cheaper than the 1900 for the black pack from land rover. Thumbs Up

I got a really good finish on the wheels so if I can do it anyone can.
