Why not make a project to move to phpBB3 (or something else) directly?
Should solve a lot of problems, like mobile templates and other things (like disco3.co.uk and disco4.com logins).
I know, sounds big, but is doable, if planned right. Cheers Patrick from Munich

Well we run a number of customisations to this software which mean that a move to phpBB 3 is not even a big project, it's massive.
Also, phpBB 3 does not solve some of the bugs with phpBB 2, particularly being randomly logged out/losing the new posts list.
The DISCO3.CO.UK and DISCO4.COM logins are the same, BTW. It's the same site with a different set of header images 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Hi Martin, does that mean a migration to BB3 is unlikely, and therefore tapatalk would not be possible?
phpBB seem to think migration from 2 to 3 is easy, with an auto converter... Has something changed, or are there deeper customisations that are not covered with the automated migration?Justin

If the site was running a standard installation of phpBB 2, we'd have been on 3 ages ago.
The modifications list includes but is not limited to, and in no particular order:
Event/Group Buy Sign Ups
Multiple PM recipients (although phpBB 3 has its own system)
Gallery integration
Inline upload
Cross-domain login
Vehicle profiles with images
Country flag drop down with image
Members map
New posts search forum opt-out
Post reporting system
Sponsors page
Donation page
Wiki login integration
A whole heap of administrator/moderator tools
Some of these are trivial, some require re-writing from scratch. No-one is going to be happy with a site upgrade which leaves significant functions missing or not working correctly.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Yep, I do know that, I do exactly this (not limited to) for a living.
The auto converter is crap, it only works smoothless in 50% of all cases if you have done nothing to the code. If you have done just a little bit of customization, it fails. So that's not an alternative.
The only thing one could do is move step by step, setup new board and migrate to it, considering you have the knowledge to do these migrations.
I'd be happy to assist in planning such a move, first step would be, to check, if a change is really doable and what it would need to make it work succesfully.
@Martin
Do you have a more private corner for discussing this? As said, I'd be happy to assist and make first checks and make a plan. It's not sure, that it is really worth it, but you cannot know, if you haven't tried...
To your list:
Event/Group Buy Sign Ups this must be rewritten, I'm quite sure, there is nothing like this out there
Multiple PM recipients (although phpBB 3 has its own system) works in phpBB3
Gallery integrationsimple
Inline uploadworks as standard, if necessary to upload to gallery, should be simple as well, have done a small mod like this a few months ago, integrating a gallery and imagebam
Cross-domain loginmaybe tricky, haven't had a look into this one, but not sure if there isn't a better way like internal forwarding to one domain
Vehicle profiles with imagesnot 100% sure, but I think there is already a mod out there, that does exactly this. Other way would be to rely on the integrated gallery and customize that
Country flag drop down with imagesimple, there is already a cool mod out there for exactly this
Members mapsame here, already a mod available
New posts search forum opt-outtbh, I have no idea what that means...
Post reporting systemstandard in phpBB3
Sponsors pageseparate pages could be included easily
Donation pageI know of at least three different donation mods for phpBB3
Wiki login integrationshould go hand-in-hand with gallery integration
A whole heap of administrator/moderator tools there it needs to be talked about, what is needed, phpBB3 has already a lot of built in functions, like banning, tracking and so on
This is in no way meant offensive, I do know, that a private site is a lot of work to do, and this is, as you say, a big project, that coulsn't be done with just one person. So I could totally understand if one says I don't want to do it, it's wayy to much for me, and for what I can invest in time and nerves!
So let me know, if you want to take a deeper look, and maybe we can find a way in doing such a movement, maybe not! Oh, and just to be clear, regardless that I'm doing such things for a living, this wouldn't be the case here! My work would be free of charge as I'd love to give something back to such a great forum! Cheers Patrick from Munich
