A Cautionary Tin Tent Tale
Yesterday we had a really good journey to Cornwall, Heswall (Wirral) to Heston (Lizard) in just under 7 hours, not bad towing a van and with a couple of stops.
Then on a small lane just before we got to the site, a wheel fell off the van.
I know lots of people will say you should have checked the torque on your wheel nits before setting off, well I didn't, never have done before but will in the future.
Wheels had not been off the van checked tyre pressure and condition of tyres before we left, but not the wheel nuts.
Lucky it fell off while I was going slowly, unlucky there was a Combined Harvester following me but hey ho.
Worth checking the Tin Tent wheel nuts though, I am sure I am not the only one the didn’t
Cheers
Ian

Kingmav 66, you beat me to that question.Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.
Also check after every stop where you have been out of sight of the van. Sadly.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Another one change the tyres every 5 years. My van is a 2010 swift but tyres are 2008. They can rot from the inside

Not a Bailey our van is a 2008 Abbey, guess it is due for new tyres now, as well as the trashed alloy and missing wheel nuts, not to mention the repair to the floor and refitting the wheel cowl. Maybe a cottage would have been cheaper
I was worried about the Disco, had the cam belt changed, checked the oil put new wipers on and everything ..... Only a two berth van, but the D3 is the best tow car I have ever owned, and that includes V8 classic Rangies, various other Discoveries, Vectra, plethora of Cortinas and a Mark One Mexico (the Mex was my favourite though

Sounds like someone might have had a go at nicking it, as they don't tend to undo by themselves (unless it's a Bailey of course, and only certain ones of them), but yes, it serves as a reminder that we should check from time to time.
