key working but not charging

hi i posted this question a while back and was wondering if others have now had the same problem as the car ages.

the problem is NOT with the key - which actually worked for a week or two last month! but has not worked for over a year.

05 disco 3 owned from new. Shxxtstones dealership failed to tell me to alternate keys on purchase and i didnt read ownership manual. So first key used for c 4 years then failed then spare, which did work at first until it failed Christmas 2011. New key purchased at huge expense and worked ok for few weeks but now failed. Dealership says its the car not the key. But they dont know what it is and want me to give them go ahead to pay by the hour whilst they investigate. Anyone got any ideas please? As an aside if you are reading this and never done a manual opening drill may i suggest you do one with any co drivers in attendance, mine was stiff, i didnt want to break the key, but i really needed my tools which were in the car. ended up waiting for the AA on the busiest day of the year!

Sounds as though the induction charging is not working. 1 hour to confirm this, sounds rather excessive.
Try an independent or another dealer.

search on here but there is a well known connection issue between two wires (yellow one !) think it is in the loom on the near side door on the car. Search and you will see it mentioned.

mine was the key and changed this first. see if Geoff is up your way as i am sure he can help

so clearly meant the green and white wire...... yep this is the post I was thinking about.

Geoff is a LR specialist and also mobile, if he is doing a gear box flush locally and free he might be able to do it for you. ?

Will be quicker (and cheaper) than giving a dealer free rights to charge you hourly while they look for something they don't know about.

Search Geoff, he will come up on a lot of posts.

Unbelievable! Thanks Mr K for giving me the pointer!

The remote locking on my owned from new fantastic disco has not been working for over a year as I didn't want to let sxxatstones have a go at finding the problem, I had in my head that this would cost me 1,000 quid to sort so the link above and this site has just save me a fortune - thank u to all involve.

Having read the contributors in the linked thread I thought I would give it a go tonight. It took me an hour and it bloody we'll works,

A few extra pointers which might help

The green and white wire you are looking for runs from the front of the car towards the back and in my case and others that have posted was found about 6 inches towards the back of the car from the front of the front seat.

Others have said it and I must reiterate the black terminal tube thingy looked absolutely pristine so much so that my heart sank when I saw it as I had built my hopes up and I thought no way is this faulty. Just cut the bloody thing off and strip the three wires twist them together and try your remote. Then once you have run naked round the garden a few times celebrating make the fix permanent.

It's a pig to get the loom cover back on once you have done the simple fix it's robust and takes a fair bit of force so I have managed to get it all back.

Remember the black terminal thingy will look A1 don't be fooled!
