I fitted very bright LED bulbs in place of the standard reversing bulbs and fitted a sump plate. I'd recommend forum member RLD for the later, no doubt your spare wheel protector will be coming from him.
I also replaced the boot light bulb with an LED, very useful during the winter.
I also had a set of refurbished 19" rims shod with new Pirelli ATR's ready to fit. Annoyingly I didn't understand the TPMS, that is now standard on all new vehicles. So I had to fit a set of TPMS valves to all 5 wheels as my D4 had been factory set for a full size spare. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Was the LED boot bulb replacement a straight swap? Sounds really useful as the boot will be home for my hound.
Any preventative treatments to fend off the tin worm? Or are the D4s well protected. Bits of my 90's D1's and D2's seemed to dissolve at an alarming rate!

Yeah, the LED strip is a straight swap. It's a snug fit but obvious and easy to do. Does make a big difference.
I've never bothered with any additional rust proofing. My D3 was fine after 140k miles and 6 years. Others here do though. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Agree with the installation of the LED strip light, makes a huge difference and not that difficult to do!
