but was missing some detail which I thought would be important to anyone considering this mod. Such as; removal of trim, use of MY12 Facia (which is smaller than MY11), relocation of existing screen to upper glove box, installation of electrics etc.
So, this thread will cover progress, including graphics that I have used to customise the device, and will end in a full tutorial, much the same as I have previously provided for my Freelander 2 here;

So, first step... sourcing the device!
This was a lot harder than I had planned. Both TomTom and Garmin have just come out with some brand new models, and they are all complete ! Missing some essential features for customisation...
So I took my £300 Garmin back, exchanged for a £100 TomTom, then finally settled for a previous model TomTom Start 20 for £100 from Argos, which has all the essential features and is 4.3" which will fit nicely into the opening of the D4MY12 dash.

I have the TomTom Start 60 which is just the exact size in my opening on a Disco 3 and wedges in nicely. The start up screen is just the Land Rover emblem.

Yeah, the screens have got smaller and smaller on the GS in recent times.
Was 4.5", now only 4.1"... The 4.3 TomTom fits behind this fairly nicely, since there is a slight border around the inside of the display that gets hidden.
Not sure why the GPS manufacturers have decided to leave out these key features. Do they really think everyone wants to stick a nav device on their windscreen?!?Justin

Here's my install...
Garmin Nuvi 1690 mounted quite nicely in the D3 dash opening on my GS. The supplied mounting bracket with the window sucker removed jams very securely into the dash opening with a little double sided self adhesive foam tape top and bottom (from Maplin) to make sure it stays, and it has for 3 years:-
The power cord is routed behind the centre console facure and down to the bottom where it re-appears and plugs into a flush 12V to USB adapter in one of the auxiliary power sockets, then the the unit just pushes into place :-
Customised startup image:-
Plus a Garmin EcoRoute HD module connected to the ODB2 port giving a diagnostic fault code reader (which read my EGR failure codes perfectly!!):-
And a set of extra real time gauges (voltage, water temp, mass air flow, inlet manifold pressure, inlet air temp and more):-

OK, so started down the wrong road, and eventually realised that it was not a good idea to relocate the main screen because I cannot find a suitable enclosure to house it!
So, rethink has brought me to the conclusion that I can fit an add on which looks close to factory fit. Here is what I have done so far;
