| Swinging weights next to spare tyre |

Can anyone tell me what the large, cast, swinging weights located either side of the spare wheel mount are for on the D3? As weight is only good in steamrollers, I find it curious that they are there. D4: Expedition Rack, 104 Litre Long Range Tank, Raised Air Intake
D3: Every bloomin' thing but the kitchen sink

Thanks catweasel. Did a bit of a google and found out that NVH dampening is quite widespread and done in many ways.
