I have a new noise when I start my Disco it whines and increases with more revs. It seems to disappear when it warms up.
I have a new alternator and aux tensioner
Any ideas ? Mine has always done this in the morning. I think I read on here it was the fan and temperature dependent and not a fault - it is a fair old roar though!
I am sure others will be able to shed more expert light on the matter. Hope it is as simple as this .

Check power steering fluid level and conservation status. Maybe the reservoir filter is clogged and the pump make noise because starving. Bmw tipical fault and it happens too to the very first D3 and RRS, needing fluid flush and a new reservoir.
Check belts and tensioners.
If the sound is a a "roooar" and you hear air moving under you hood for second just after start from cold, nothing serious, is the viscous fan coupler. Silicone fluids settled at bottom of the coupler along stop time and it needs many turns to redistribute around coupler interior to normalize.

My Discovery 3 started a loud whistle/whine on cold start up for just a few seconds.
I replaced the aux belt, idler & tensioner. The belt looked tired anyway.
This made no difference.
The whine got worse & would then randomly appear.
Turned out to be the alternator.
I had bought a power steering pulley kit LR027983 from The Large One as that was my next stop.
Never fitted it. It's still in the garage in its box. Mitsubishi Outlander Phev 4H 2018.
