Protecting Seatbelts from Dog
Scenario: Discovery 3 seven-seater with dog guard, dog left in boot (above folded down third row seats), dog chews both third-row seatbelts one of them almost severed. £500 at dealer to replace.
Question 1: has anyone found a way of protecting these seatbelts apart from getting rid of the dog? Pieces of split plastic plumbing pipe slipped over them perhaps?
Grateful for any ideas.
Question 2: has anyone made an insurance claim for pet damage like this; and did it affect the next renewal premium? I have a protected no-claims bonus.
Many thanks
Stephen

ISTR if the seats are in place the belts need to be there for the MOT. I've got the opposite, seats out and belts in and it always gets a comment on the MOT.
I may be wrong, it has been known.

Dog chewed through both of mine so I now spray them with anti chew stuff from pet shop. Dog has only chewed through one of the new ones so far! I bought 2 new ones for around £90 and site sponsor Geoff.
fitted them but he swore so much doing so I doubt he will ever want to fit them again
I've unbolted one of mine at the bottom and stowed it behind the plastic d-pillar cover. Not had an MOT yet like that but doubt it'll be an issue, seats are folded down and you'd have to remove load divider plus a load of other stuff from the boot to raise the seats to test them properly which has never been done for past MOTs.
Have had advisory's in the past about not being able to test 2nd row belt due to child seat being fitted but nothing more than that. The End

Seats are no longer in place if hidden by a loadspace cover 2014 D4 XS

I've only got the front two seats in mine and have a printout (somewhere) from the MOT "manual" saying if there are no seats fitted then the belts are not considered as seatbelts.

Dog chewed through both of mine a couple of years back - whenever it's MOT time I just leave the boot buddy in place and fill it full of 'stuff' - never had an issue as they never realise there are seats there lol !The Father wove the skein of your life a long time ago. Many thanks for all your helpful suggestions. Rather to my surprise my insurance will pay the bill so I am in for only(!) the excess.
