Another graphic demonstration of tow strop failure |
|
Graphic content, so don't look if you don't like seeing people knocked over like skittles
Lessons learned....
1) Check your kit
2) Double check your kit
3) Don't pull at right-angles to the direction the car wants to go in!
4) If ignoring 1, 2 and 3, ask the spectators to back the hell out of the way.

There is a more graphic, longer version of this out there. I suggest you don't look for it, as you get to see exactly what happened to the people the strop took out. Brains leaking out of places where you might expect a forehead to be, that sort of thing. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Nasty. Were they killed by the strap or the tow hitch which ripped out of the towing vehicle? A few pounds of steel flailing around n the end of a tow strap.....that's one hell of a lethal weapon.
Either way, a lesson to be learned. Arthur.
Comedy was a horse, Harvey a dog, both sadly gone. Thought I was choosing a password!

I've seen the more brutal, longer version and the strop killed both. Strop-shaped gaps in the forehead will do that, unfortunately. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

You maybe right chaps but that's not what the video actually shows. The tow hitch clearly rips out of the rear crossmember with a puff of rust and snatches back with the strap, we don't see the strap break. So, both tow hitch and strap fail?
Lethal either way. Arthur.

Genuine questions from a winching novice:
If a winch blanket had been used, would it have done it's job? Or are blankets only of use when the actually rope/strop/wire etc. snaps, not the tow bar or recovery point being pulled away from the vehicle? 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Bit worrying that is video 22 - what is the total death toll from the 21 that preceeded it? A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
