Plasic parts in the inlet manifold have melted
Hi car lost power with black smoke coming out of the exhaust on Saturday with engine fault coming up on the display. Called Land Rover Assist who quickly identified split inter coler hose. Anyway did a quick fix & a test drive. Still showing faults. Took the engine cover off and found that plastic(?)
parts on the inlet manifold had melted. Car in the dealers currently still being looked. Has anyone come across this before? LRA guy said he'd never seen it before.
Cheers

Got any pics, especially the area around the EGR stub pipes?
I'm thinking partially plugged cat, that your EGRs are not blanked and that you are getting more than normal flow/temps back to the manifold…Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Hi Robbie thanks for the reply. The LRA guy took a photo, am trying to get him to forward it to me. The part where the issue is is probably more akin hard paper if that helps. There are 3 separate holes, the largest of which is half an inch in diameter caused by high temperature.
thanks

Hi all! Paddymax what ended up being the problem? I have just started working on a a tdv6, which has the exact same symptoms. The EGR valves have now been blanked and the main boost hose has been changed. The car is still producing black smoke. On the way back I disconnected the air mass sensor which cured the smoke but obviously only getting up to 3000 rpm. I took the cover off to clean the map sensor too and found oil everywhere with holes all over the inlets.
Would it possible to jbweld the holes and go from there? I take the holes where caused by high intake temp when the EGR's where seized open?
