Extended Warranties - Any thoughts?

Hi all, was just looking at an extended warranty on my 100K D3 for around £65 per month?

Has anyone ever had any experiene of these?

Would the £65 be better off in my bank than theirs?

Any thoughts anyone always gratefully recieved?

Very Happy

Extended warranties are like Marmite, some love them, some hate them and everything in between. Personally I'm the former, had one since the car went out of waranty 5 years ago & never regretted it. Also never been out of pocket, claimed far more than i've paid. Don't assume they are as good as a new car warranty, they 're not. If you expect that then you'll be disappointed. Don't be taken in by the LR label on their warranty, it's a Car Care Plan product. Been with Warranry Direct for 3 years and as far as I can see it's the best option a they cover wear & tear. Thumbs Up

I'll check in on the other side to Del; 3 year warranty expired July 2008 - just coming up to the end of the sixth year of warranty-less-ness, during which time I've had another compressor, alternator and various suspension parts (nothing major). Having had the car from new, I didn't have to consider a possible arduous prior use.

I'm probably bitter & twisted by my experience of lack of reliability. My folks had a D3 for 4 years and not a single issue, same with a D4 for 3 years. I wasn't that lucky.

Excellent thanks for your replies - I have to be honest and say I have never had one, and dont really fancy the idea but with potential big bills looming I was considering my options!!

Suppose could just buy a newer car but to be honest went to the local dealers at the weekend and upgrading to a D4 would have meant losing all sorts of toys and things I have now for a big bill every month to pay for it! Think will stay with my D3 (Until the next big bill)

How much are people pying for their warranties - if you dont mind sharing?

Warranties feed off your anxieties. The "what if" scenario. The people that swear by them are the ones that have claimed off them, but for every person claiming, there has to be policy holders not claiming or not able to.

I do change the Discos before the 3 year warranty expires. The exception to that is another LR I have had from new and which is just over 6 years old. It's not covered by any warranty. To have purchased an extended warranty would have set me back £2,400. So what's it cost me in bills? A couple of hundred for new brake pads. They wouldn't have been covered anyway. So I am quids in and extol the virtues of not having a warranty.

BTW there is a half way house. An AA warranty is reasonably cheap and takes the sting out of some repairs, up to £500, whern the car physically won't go.

Anyway, your choice.

I put the warranty money in to premium bonds, if I need it then it's a growing pot of cash.

Problem if the engine completely lunches itself but otherwise potentially worth the gamble if you are looking after the car properly with preventative maintenance

think lr one is either 750 quids and about 950 quids for the better one covering more items....but..think your mileage may be against lr one
