Hi Gang... just come back from a 3500 Km trip to Winton.
While we were there, we visited Lark Dino quarry.
Very impressive.. however, the trip involved around 160 km on very dusty dirt roads.
While the D3 was largely clean inside, a lot of dust came in between the seal on the top and bottom tail gates.
Anybody else had this problem?
Anybody got a cure?
Cheers

Make sure that the vehicle's ventilation system is not on recirculate. It should be on "Fresh" and I usually have the fan speed on the highest possible. This pressurises the cabin and forces air out of the leak points. The temperature setting is irrelevant. There's no point in trying to improve seals if you are sucking air in in the first place. you shouldn't need to pressurise the cabin as there should be no leaks. get your dealer to adjust the tailgate.

I still think that some dust will penetrate the rear seal even if the tailgate is adjusted and closes tightly because the rubber seal will still flex enough with the rear doors on rough roads therefore letting in minute amounts of fine dust.
I suffer this and I think it is acceptable.

Catweasel, you obviously haven't experienced good old Aussie bulldust! The pressurising trick is the ONLY way to ensure dust stays out of the vehicle. D4: Expedition Rack, 104 Litre Long Range Tank, Raised Air Intake

I get a tiny bit of dust in the edge of the rear tailgate (as it has only a single seal, whereas the doors have double seal). Pretty good since I do a lot of dusty gravel driving.
Now I have an extra issue. I have to re-do the wiring for the aux tank switch. When I took the RHS tailight off the other day, I discovered the dudes who installed the tank conveniently ran the wiring harness thought the one-way rubber flapper vent thingy, allowing permanent dust ingress that way. Have a nice day!
