WOW! I've driven my D4 at 149mph.

Firstly apologies, I really can't divulge very much information at all about this. It's commercially highly sensitive. So I can't answer any questions.

So to cut a very long story short. A friend of mine is a highly respected name in the world of motorsport, specialising in engine management. Currently he's working with a UK based F1 team and also with a German "Tuning" Co.

It seems that the Germans love the SDV6 engined FFRR, RRS and to a lesser degree the D4. But they're not fast enough!

So later this year, the German Co. will be offering a range of performance upgrades for SDV6 vehicles.

These aren't simple remaps. Far cleverer than that, they automatically lower suspension height as speed increases and varoius other tricks. The top package will only be sold with a ceramic brake upgrade Shocked

They'll all be TUV tested and approved and warranteed etc.

My friend invited me to the F1 facility last weekend, were he was busy with the live monitoring of the teams cars in Malaysia, despite being in the UK!

On the private test track and having signed two disclaimers, we had a play with the software that he's developed for the MY14 D4. Apparently the new Land Rovers have hardest system he's ever had to crack.

So with my new D4 hooked up to a laptop, speed measuring equipment and various remote sensors, we tried just the standard LR ECU setting with the speed limiter derestricted. On it's own, this will not be an option available to buy.

Result: True top speed 129mph, speedo showed c.140mph.

Next, we tried what will be the basis of the most extreme package for the D4. This involves the lowering and stiffening of the air suspension as speeds increase.

Result: True top speed 149mph, speedo stopped way of ths clock Laughing

On the later test, the wind noise was obviously increased, but not as bad as i thought and due to the suspension changes it felt as stable as it does at 90mph.

My D4 is now back to normal, it was a fun April day, if a little foolish!

Why no photo of the digital MPH display or the RPM….?

Or do we need a calendar?

In the UK, an April fool joke is revealed by shouting "April fool!" at the recipient, who becomes the "April fool". A study in the 1950s, by folklorists Iona and Peter Opie, found that in the UK, and in countries whose traditions derived from the UK, excluding Australia, the joking ceased at midday.[12] A person playing a joke after midday is the "April fool" themselves.[1]

More or less your speedo is on 170 mph, as the diameter opposite number of 10 is 110, so 100 mph more than the pointer opposite number (70),i dont see the 149...(i see greater speed, even real speed)

So, as 170 are 273 kph.(that's a serious speed! Upper reserved only to entry level supercars or high level common cars, S4, 335I, vauxhall VXR and so...) How many horses under your hood in this test? Do you know? Rolling Eyes

I dont think this speeds for a standard engine and tranny could be so good, even in short bursts....hp and torque must be elevated till dangerous levels to get his speeds. Best get it upgraded internally and full warrant-no conditions from tuner....and enjoy safe Wink

(if this is real of course Wink rpm could be a bit stressed at this speeds...)

It's a genuine photo. Not photoshopped.

A way to make light of the fact that within 20 hours of ownership, the speedo on my new D4 has broken Sad
