12n/12s swap to 13pin socket query

I recently swapped my twin old style towing electrics over to 13pin by cutting off the old sockets and wiring in a single 13 pin socket. All done with the help of the D3 guru's on here. I haven't as yet had the opportunity to try them as my new caravan isn't being delivered to the dealer until 24th of this month. I have been looking a "Swifttalk" which is a Swift caravan forum whilst waiting for the van to arrive and have seen someone had said that they needed to upgrade a fuse and swap a relay for the charging and fridge operation to work correctly. I fitted my 12n/12s electrics originally to my D3 and nothing was said at the time about anything being needed for either setup and that they were just plug in mini looms with a socket or two, depending on the fitting.
Has anyone else swapped over the cheap way like me? Have you encountered any charging/fridge problems after carrying out the swap?
Or does this apply only to non LR vehicles, IE lesser cars?
Cheers

Huw,
I bought the new loom with 13pin socket but the first part is the same, I think the fuse bit is mainly if you are getting a van with ATC or the BPW version, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, I uprated the permanent live fuse in the rear fuse block to 20A, it tells you which one in the handbook!! This is for the D3 I cant help on a D4!!

Hi Jamie
I'll swap the fuse over too to be safe as my van does have ATC.
Thanks for your help. Thumbs Up

its not the fridge/charging fuse that you may need to swap, its the permanent 12v feed.

The fridge/charger uses a switched (ignition controlled) 12v,whilst the ATC uses a permanant 12v, and if I recall needs to be 20A. I had to update it in the rear towing loom fuse box on my D3, but the D4 has been fine.

I'll swap the permanent live fuse to 15A at the rear tow fuse box.
I understand that the charging/fridge is ignition dependent but had heard thats where the problem was. I feel better talking it over with you guys as you tend to have a much better and clearer understanding.

United Kingdom 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 GS Manual Bonatti GreyDiscovery 3

Hi guys

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I've got to upgrade the old twin sockets on the disco (that I fitted 6months ago) to 13pin for the new tin tent.

I'm thinking the most economical means of this is to adapt the existing harness supplied from Landrover and re wire into one 13a socket.

Does anyone have the wiring details and what fuse I need to change?

Sorry to repeat things, just wondering how it's best to proceed.

Cheers

Joe

United Kingdom

I just bought a converter harness. Plugs into the N and S sockets on the car, and has a 13 pin for the caravan. Works a treat, and lets me retain the old sockets if I were to need them.

I was told the other day when my Defender was in for MOT that 13 pin sockets are supposed to be tested at the MOT, the older N and S are not subject to test.

Thanks Gareth

Do you have a link to where you got the adaptor from?
