[Wanted] Worn/ past it's best Aux Belt Idler and/ o |
|
Having a play about changing the actually bearing in my old aux belt idle roller. Now that I've got the thing apart I can see how to do it without trashing the pulley next time..... Has anybody got one with a knackered bearing that they'd be happy to let me have? Once I've done a decent job of it I'll post up a 'how to'

If you mean the one at the top of the engine which "rotates" to keep the belt tensioned - then I did have but it went to the tip last week Mark.

I was going to do the same last year. I bought a pair of bearings, 6203 2RS but never got round to doing it.
I have just searched the garage & cannot find the old idler assembly.
However, I did find the new bearings & a used tensioner assembly if any use to you.

Hi.
You can have the old tensioner and the 2 new bearings that I bought for the idler.
I'm not sure if the tensioner & idler use the same bearings!!! It would be interesting to know.
Just cover the postage & they are all yours.
Pm me your address & I'll get them on their way to you.

As old as this topic is, did you get around to doing it ?
I'm going to be changing the tensioner soon and given as how the idler has all the black coating worn off I'd like to have that renewed without having to fork out for the assembly, as the cast arm is perfectly fine.
This is done of course with a view to costs, if a new idler PQH500130 costs the same as a bearing , I wouldn't bother with the work.

For anyone wondering if it is worth the effort, there is a Kit which comes with a new bearing pressed into a new pulley which can be installed on the old Idler arm. It is made by a brand called "Febest".
That "Febest" part was €23 for the pulley including bearings.
A new Litens/INA branded full arm including bearing and pulley was €49.
To me, with an unknown brand vs. known brand and a small price difference like that, it was a no brainer to go ahead and buy and fit the Litens branded idler arm and pulley.
Hope that helps anyone thinking of taking apart the pulley in PQH500130 to install a new bearing.
In theory it could be done, however you'll need to drill the 3x rivets holding the 2 pc pulley out, and then install new rivets in place, once you're pressed the bearings in (they were 6203s I think).
