[HELP-BUYING CAR] RANGE ROVER SPORT VS DISCOVERY 3

Hi,
i would buy Range Rover Sport 2006/2007 or discovery 3 2006/2007
What are the main differences between those 2 cars?
I’ve seen those online offers, which car do you suggest me?

1) http://www.autoscout24.it/Details.aspx?id=258878082&asrc=st|as
I’ve seen it, 4 owners before me, last check up on 2010. It needs new check up and suspension refill. Price 10.000 €

2) http://www.autoscout24.it/Details.aspx?id=260111396&asrc=st|as
I’ve to see it: tyres to be changed. Price 11.500 €

3) http://www.autoscout24.it/Details.aspx?id=260560502&asrc=st|sr,as
Price 13.999 €

4) http://www.autoscout24.it/Details.aspx?id=259478042&asrc=st|sr,as
Price 13.500 €, but it seem not to be SE, but S. Can you confirm?

Both cars are built on the same platform so I think it comes down to lifestyle choice.

In my case, kids, grand kids and a dog make it a simple choice, D3 all day long.

If pace rather than space is your thing, probably a RR sport as it is more nimble.

So the main differences are only by capacity of cargo and styles?

Well, I can only tell you how I look at it:
RRS is the more posh thing. Luxurious interior materials but less practical.
D3 is more of a workhorse... Build quality is good but the materials used are more practical in my opinion. The square boot gives it loads more luggage space.

They're on the same platform but the D3 is more of a cruiser where a RRS's suspension seems harder and less forgiving to me. I could not imagine why the RRS would be less capable offroad but it heard that it is.

You could ask this same question over on RRSport.
My 2 cents.

If it hasn't been serviced since 2010, I wouldn't touch it really. D3's need to be looked after. Thumbs Up

When you say suspension re-fill, do you mean it needs new shock absorbers?

In terms of D3 vs RRS then it's much as Dusty says. The D3 is more practical and heavy. The RRS is lighter (but uses the same heavy chassis), has a shorter wheelbase and firmer suspension.

The RRS can have slightly higher specs than a D3, while it is not available in the lower specs of some D3s. The RRS is also available with a more powerful TDV8 engine.

The D3 has a proper tailgate to sit on, the RRS does not. Smile

Other than this they are very similar and I'm sure you'd be pleased with either - just buy carefully.

Much of the stuff that applies to the 2.7 TDV6 D3 is the same for the TDV6 RRS. Thumbs Up

The D3's drop down tailgate is nice for sitting on but it does make it difficult for the shorter and less agile people to reach things in the boot - my wife has to climb into the boot to get stuff out, whereas you don't need to in a Sport. (Just a practical observation I've noticed when borrowing my Dad's Sport.)

That's a good point simonej, I did prefer the side hung door on my previous 3 Discos.

When the D3 first made an appearance on our roads it was as though something was missing without having the spare wheel on the back door, but now time has cured me of that thought, I do like the lines of the D3.

I'm 1.8m but sometimes have to reach in... I close the bottom lid to be able to... but when you're (a lot) shorter that's also difficult.
But it makes a great sitting place to put on your boots whilst the upper lid keeps the rain away.
