changes to mot
Hi
any one have any idea if the removal of EGR valves is affected by the changes to the Mot last month with them now checking for the removal of particulate filters
Had my mot last week no issue with them, but mine are blanked not removed Goodyear Duratracs

Reading the Mot rules , they only mention the presence of particulate filters & CATs. If it passes the smoke test all is OK. Also they cannot check anything they cannot see.

You can still blank them whist leaving the associated plumbing intact. Anybody looking at them would never know the difference unless they removed the pipework to see what was underneath (which an MoT tester is not going to do).
Geoff has some stainless steel shims you can put in between the EGR valve and the associated pipe work. Not sure how this would work where the pipes enter the manifold, though (although the plastic engine cover would probably do a decent enough job of disguising that).

The MOT tester 'should not' remove the engine covers, so not sure how they would see that the EGR pipework is missing.
If it was my car, and they started removing 'parts' I would be asking why Never get mad - get even !!

Disagree.
The EGR pipework is very easy to see even with the engine cover ON. It's equally easy to see if it's been removed.
Although this photograph shows the engine cover removed, those grey, braided pipes that come out either side of the manifold are very obvious and it wouldn't be difficult for an MoT Tester to see if they were missing. Both EGR valves are clearly visible with the engine cover on.2021 BMW iX3 Premier Edition in Carbon Black ⚡️🔌

I would imagine that if any such checks were to be forthcoming they would be in the form of electronic diagnostics.
As has been said so many different models of car have these blanked off it would be impossible, and certainly impractical, for the tester to visually be able to check the state of the EGR system in the time confines of a normal test. Not to mention they'd have to know the EGR system layout of every engine variant that might require a MOT test.
Then the question would be who would pay for all of the technology to be updated to allow them to electronically check such things and how many vehicles would it be possible to interrogate electronically to conclusively find if it had been blanked/whatever or not?

I suspect, as with 99.9% of all 'new' MOT check items, this can only apply to 'new' vehicles and not be 'retrospective'...........
