Looking good
Held 140's and 170's (and 240's) up against the rack yesterday. 140's look the best. 170's are a little large. 240's aren't much bigger than the LR ones - I'd still fit four across Not sure what the mpg would be though
Where did you get yours, Gareth? Found a 4x4 place in Devon (or called Devon) online that's cheapest so far (£135)Disco 5 HSE Lux

I got two from Devon 4x4 for £135 as stated. I got 2 more of ebay for a little less, I can't remember how much now.
I have to confess that I have removed the the lights that were on the D3 rack I bought from Ken. I have also modified the rack by taking off the front aerofoil, and the top rail and uprights. I then used a piece of the top rail to make a 'finisher' across the back of the rack to fill in the gap, and stop me standing on the glass roof! Sort of looks like a FR rack now, with a curved front.
The rack with lights as bought off Ken reduced (increased?) my consumption from a steady 24-25 ish, to a definite <21 mpg. The noise was also noticable. As most of my miles are motorway long distance I now keep the rack in the cellar, to be fitted for camping/caravanning and off-roading forays. It takes me and my son 20 minutes to fit. I also have drilled the base to mount a top box and 2 bike rack together. You can't do that with the side rails in place.

Gareth that looks cool...did you drill out the rivets so that you could bolt the upright back together if you wanted ?21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

DG, no. It was held together by allen bolts. You could possibly re-assemble if you wanted to. I actually made it irreversible, because I used a top rail, cut it and rivetted it across the back between the rack sides. I then cut the plastic upright cover to make it look really neat.
The good news is that with the rack on, and no top box or bike carriers I was getting 24 mpg. However, it was still very noisy.

OI you lot! Give me my thread back.
Rack all cleaned up and and sprayed, looks like new and rattles like a good un. Previous owner had a base of chequer plate which was pop rivetted, and when he drilled them out to sell it, all the ends fell inside the rails.
Every corner now rattles to the sound of the ends running to the other end of the rail. I think the cure will be to tip them all down one end and squirt some expanding foam in there to stop em moving.
Just waiting for one of the turrets to turn up now and I'll be up and running.
I kept the chequerplate in place but screwed it rather than rivetting, which now gives me the choice of having a base or not.
All in all a good days work. Still a bit to do but ended up costing £250 including the ladder, which when you consider the original owner paid over £1100 for the same kit it wasn't a bad deal all in.
I'll post some pics as soon as my mother in law works out how to e-mail them. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Not a bad job considering the state of it when I picked it up. Most of the credit goes to my FIL Dave for the refurb, took about 6 hours between us.
