another oil pump question
My 7a chassis number is due for a Belt change.
Land rover won't comment on pump failure And my dealerTells me the failure is due to Bad fitting and not to have the pump changed. They both say if it fails is down to someone to foot the bill but not all of it will be bown to me. They seem to miss the point that I don't want it to fail in the first place.
I have been told there is an 07 range rover sport with eighty eight thousand miles and a broken belt on ebay is this the same problem On them.
The dealer says to do the job properly it should be a 10 hour job not the 4 land rover quote as you cant be Sure you don't damage the bottom gasket.
I am going mad here trying to work out what to do as I being told different things.
Any advice to make my head spin even more would be appreciated.

I paid to have the dodgy oil pump casing replaced when the belts were done. Think it was approx £60 parts & 3 hours labour on top of the usual which I was happy to pay.

Bodsy, is that on top of the usual time to do the belts?

They need to Remove the timing belt to change it, so I would say you probably need to pay 3 hours or so on top of the timing belt change.Bodsys Brake Bible

Had service done this week still getting over how much I paid out, some people pay this amount for their whole car
I was going to J.V.Like in hay on wye where i brought the car from but they weren't keen to change the pump and said "if it breaks you get a shiny new engine" they like Land Rover don't seem to get the point that I don't want it to go in the first place, So I was going to Cotswolds for the weekend so decided to make a long weekend and take it to TH White.
When I spoke to them it was a different story, they were happy to do a oil pump and had done others and I am not sure as they didn't say out right but reading between the lines they had been following the thread on here about oil pumps but as i say they didn't acutely admit to it but in the general conversation it sounded that way.
So it went in Monday and i came away with a shiny white two door Evoque with 2,000 miles on the clock.
Now i am not a fan of it and after driving it for three day would i part with any money for it a 5 door might be better But as a courtesy car a good bit of kit considering some of the things i have been given in the past, Now all i have to do is learn to reverse again without the very handy reversing camera its worrying how quickly you get used to something like that.
.
I will say i was treated well by T H White They kept informed as to what was going on and if I decide to have another dealer service next year i will go again.
The only problem they had was the bolt that i think holds the Alternator on to the bracket turned about two or three turns and snapped off not sure why as you can see in the back of the hole where it came out a bit and there is no sign of corrosion or cross threading but the bolt looks a little bent has anyone seen it before? i hope pictures attached below.
The oil pump looks ok no sign of cracks and i think it is the type that goes but has only done 36,000 miles so i would hope it didn't have any cracks
So the nasty bit was in total for both jobs £1728.95
The main service with belts £738.96 + vat
oil pump and multi v belts £701.83 + vat that includes £43.45 for a new alternator bracket and 89p for bolt. I am sure i could argue for not paying for the bracket as its the first time its been undone from factory so it may have been assembled wrong but i am not sure it was an argument to have with service i might have a word with pete@landrover.
Over all an expensive few days it did run in to three days as they had to wait for the bracket but that can't be helped but I am happy with the service i received and now don't have to worry about the oil pump failing

Yes I know I must have something wrong in the head for paying that price but my thinking was if they it up they are a main dealer and I don't feel upset about having a go at them unlike an indie who I would feel sorry for when it goes up.
I do have a good guy who would have done the belts and has done them before on earlier D3's but has never done a pump so I didn't want to put him on the spot as I know he would have a go and when it went wrong he would have to pay to get it right.

I think I would struggle to get it to 4 figures. Unless you wanted an Evoque hired as a courtesy car for a few days
