Replacing steering rack

At my latest visit to the garage my mechanic told me there was too much "play" in the steering rack.
Hence the rattling in the steering wheel on gravel roads.

A new one here in Sweden cost app GBP 1000

I did however manage to get one for a newer model for GBP 100.
The question is - will it fit.

My car is one of the first (2004 LHD)
the rack i found has number QEB500275 LR72012

My question is:
Will it fit or what has changed?

Did you check to make sure it isn't the inner track rods that have play in them?
They are a VERY common cause of rattling in the steering wheel on gravel roads.

Are you sure it needs a whole new steering rack? as it may well be lower steering column that needs replacing (a very common fault) which cost around €100 and a DIY job.

A search on here for 'lower Steering Column" will give you all the infor you need.

If the inner tie rods have not been changed recently, that will be your problem, contact Steve at advanced factors he will ship them and ensure you get the correct ones as left and right have different size threads, even if it is your steering rack you will still need to fit these Thumbs Up

I did replace the inner steering rods this summer. The joints were worn.
However it didn´t get any better.
