Unusual engine tone at 2000 revs in most gears

Only had my disco 3 few months but have noticed that in most gears just above 2000 revs I get extra noise and a bit of vibration. It sounds like its coming from passenger side of the vehicle. I discovered the pollen filter cover is missing, so am replacing that as thought that might allow Has anyone come across this before or got any ideasto what it may be?

Cheers

Jack

I haven't noticed any power loss in mine as of yet. Replaced the pollen filter cover today and made no difference to mine either. Which gears do you notice this in on yours?

Thanks. Will have a look over that tomorrow and then give it another run. It does sound like something isn't quite sealed. But must be at the 2000 rev mark causes something to reverberate.

Exactly same, strange engine sound (a bit with low tones) and vibrations, when my pipe was broken.

How far down does the pipe run? There is no damage across the top of it that is visible. Is it best to take it off so you can look at it properly?

Haven't had a chance to check just yet, do I need to remove engine cover when I do? Also I have noticed sounds getting more obvious the more I drive it. Is there any danger of damaging any other parts in engine bay. I have quite a few miles to cover before I am going to be able to get it sorted.

Thanks

Serious damage can occur, if pipe is broken for example into fuel filter direction. Pipe can be accessed ONLY from under engine or body removal method. There you can find numerous themes about this problem:

Thank you. I think I will get it into a garage ASAP before doing too many more miles

sorry jack, I havnt been on for a day or so, but mine does it in most of the lower gears as the power comes in but as I say mine has low power until it starts to make the noise a 2000 rpm then it takes off, where is the crossover pipe is it rubber or metal ?

No worries. Oh right, I have no power loss and seems to be gears 3,4,5 mainly. I am taking it to be looked at today. I will let you know any findings

Findings so far. Think we might have narrowed it down a bearing that has gone in the prop shaft. Have you had that checked on yours?
