Replacing wheel nuts

Following a recent service at my local main dealer, I noticed that the mechanic had listed "corroded wheel nuts" as an item requiring attention, and quoted quite a hefty cost for this. Has anyone else come across this as a point of concern and is there a recommended source of these at a reasonable cost? I reckon I can replace these myself without resorting to another visit to the dealer!

Was he referring to the locking wheel nuts- if so, plenty on the forum at present.

F-4 the general consensus is replace the locking nuts ASAP with genuine non lockers. The locking ones frequently fail and you are in a world of do-do getting them off. Re non lockers rusting, it does happen under the stainless cover so you get swollen nut syndrome and the wheel brace doesn't fit. These also need replaced. Thumbs Up

All easy DIY at home, even by a techiephobe like me. Toque the nuts up to 120Nm, or is it 140. Confused Mr. Green

The 'Normal' nuts often rust under the stainless steel cover, expand & then you cannot get the correct size spanner on the nut.

Was having a blonde moment, the 120Nm is for my now departed BM. If I had any marbles I'd have lost them years ago. Laughing Laughing

Go into your profile (top menu) and put the link in as off site avatar, though it may need shrunk down as it's a bit big. Select "quote" in my post above & copy the link between & . Thumbs Up
