chopping up a pull out awning
Just wondering if any one has cut down a factory made pull out awning or reused any of the parts for a custom fit to their D3?
I have a pair of Fammia F35 Pro 2.5m awnings. The casing makes them abut 2.76m long.
I’m looking for a way to use them on an LR3 that’s fitted with a Prospeed rack. The prospeed is given as having a 1.7m x 1.1m load space.
When I offer them up to the rack they look a little too long and I was wondering if it would be possible to customise them with out destroying them.

My 2.5m Howling Mood awning sticks out off the front of my Prospeed rack (see avatar <<) but to be honest, I wouldn't even consider the thought of hacking up a decent awning for such aesthetic reasons? In my experience there is no physical problems to it protruding.
Do watch where you mount it at theback though - too far back and it can foul on the top of the rear/boot door when it's up, especially if you have a ladder fitted.

Thanks James
Thanks James.
That helps a lot, in terms of real world use and a visual.
To be honest it’d break my heart to chop them up, especially if I got it wrong.
Its not so much the aesthetics, although that’s a part of it, its more to do with wanting to run a sheet to the ground, “baker†tent style, from the front end and in an efficient manner to act as a wind deflector and getting the deflector and the awning to follow the rough profile of the front door & roof line.
Its just that if placed on top of the rack the 80cm protrusion is at the wrong end. Its a bit hard to tell from your avatar but is yours mounted on top, hence the ladder issue?
I was thinking I could get better use and balance if I mounted it off the side but not sure how practical it would be in use.
Your thoughts would be much appreciated along with any closer shots you might have.
