Fancy Chrome Thingys on my door mirrors.

I have these fancy chrome covers on my door mirrors. They were on the Disco when I bought it. Apart from the fact that I don't really like them, one of them has water marks underneath the chrome which I obviously can't do any thing about. I'm assuming that they are add-ons by a previous owner and sp I now want to remove them. They are a really tight fit and I therefore don't want to break anything. I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to how I might get these things off.

Had the same on mine, pain in the Censored to get off but you will need to get other covers to go on, you can get Java black covers no problem. Get a reasonable size flat head screwdriver and go underneath on the corner near to the window and push it up and the lift, basically you need to break it. Then go from the top and work your way around, taking bits off. Eventually you will see the thick black bonder and you will need to break it with the screwdriver. Its not easy but you will destroy the chrome. Once its off it will have all the bonder and it will look a mess and will never look good enough to leave bare without a new cover.

Pain in the hoop to get these off. As others said, flathead screw driver and I used a hair dyer to warm up the glues a bit. Had to put new covers on after as the glue had stained the plastic underneath.

Looks much better with colour coded covers Thumbs Up

I don't know mine came with them, wasn't impressed but they've grown on me. Think they will look nice when I can afford a D4 Beanie grill.

When we did ours, we left the whole unit on the car and just popped the top half of the mirror off. And no clips broken so if needs be we can put the original nara bronze parts back on Thumbs Up

I used a thin bladed knife like a palette knife which is very flexible it slides under the cover and the contours and cuts though the bonding gunk it took some time but the came off in the end, got some nice colour coded full covers to replace, looks tons better pics in my gallery.

I have exactly the same thoughts as you Colin. They have grown on me and now I think they break the lines of the car nicely.
