Retrofit front windscreen heating?

Hi,

Due to bad flying stone damage which would mean MOT failure, yesterday I had the windscreen replaced on my base model, 7 seater, Disco 3 by Autoglass in Aberdeen. Despite telling them at the time of booking that it was the base model, I returned to the car and found that they had fitted the windscreen that has the heater elements in it.

So I was thinking was there any easy way to get this working. I do not know whether they wired it in. I assume that the circuitry/connectors are already in the loom, but where? What else is needed other than the dashboard switch? Is this something to even think about undertaking?

Any advice gratefully received as usual.

Cheers,

Rob

I had the a-pillar trim (right hand side on my LHD D3) off the other day (the one that covers the front row curtain airbags) and spotted two single-pole insulated spade connectors.....

I guess these are what is needed to physically connect the heated screen (can't think of anything else they would be used for)...

Can't help much with the rest to be honest, but I guess you'd need a new HVAC unit with the front heated screen button on it though....

Cheers,
Paul

The hard part is done - you got the screen.

You now have two choises:
1 - get a timer relay and wiring everything none OEM
2 - The connectors are in the A-pillars, even on the basic spec, chances are the Autoglass biys already plugged them in. Now all you need is a HVAC unit with a heated windscreen button. These are expensive new, but hunt around breakers/ebay etc and you should be able to pick one up. I got a HSE one with Heated screen and Heated Seats button as well as the climate control dual-zone adjusters for £25 when I did ours some 3-4 years ago.

Can't remember the Fuse numbers, but they are in the Battery Fuse box and there's two of them 30Amp each

I looked into doing this mod on my 54 plate base spec last year but found that some of the wiring in the battery JB was not present. Yes, the thick wires to the screen connecters were there, but some of the feeds from the CJB to BJB missing unfortunately. Tricky to add them as they need to pass through the bulkhead, so I didn't bother.

I'm agree with you, some of the wiring in the battery JB was not present. There are not the wires :

-1- between the two mini fuses (30A) and the screen connecters left and right (passenger side for an RHD) I found the plug.

-2- the wire between the hevac unit and the relay (electric diagram).
behind the hevac unit there is an Brown wire. If I put an voltmeter into this Brown wire en the negative terminal I have 0.5V I switch on the windscreen If I swith off I have 0V. Could you confirm me it is the good Brown wire.

Could you tell me too where is the connect to the Battery Junction box. The central Junction box there too many wires I'm lost.

Thanks before

I hope that my french you will not be sick
