Iron Deposits on Alloy Wheels
Hi Chaps,
I bought a 2nd hand set of these wheels (pic is not my car) and used Britemax Iron Max to great effect in removing some hard iron deposits from them. After my Grabber ATs had been fitted I then cleaned and waxed the wheels before applying a coat of Poorboys Wheel Sealant.
10 days later I've noticed that after washing the car there are noticeable iron deposits on the wheels again! (As squirt of Iron Max soon sorted it out).
I've never seen this on alloys before. Is it a Discovery 3 thing, is it the style of wheels I have bought?
I'd appreciate hearing your own experience.

Thanks DSL. When the tyre fitter was doing his bit last week I had a look round and decided a new set of pads all round would be a prudent move. Funnily enough, I booked her in earlier today to have that job done!
I'll try to remember to report back with any difference in the iron deposits once the new pads are in and I've done some miles on them.

I had the same couple of years ago. It was the caliper binding on & the pads were down to the metal.

I don't think I'm down to the metal but I'll find out soon enough and ask my garage to check for any binding.

I promised to report back....
New pads all round pretty much eliminated the rapid showing of iron deposits. Done about 3,000 miles since giving the wheels the clean, polish and poorboys sealant treatment (including some off road trips) and they still clean up very easily with a sponge and a purpose made wheel brush for the difficult corners (I can recommend the blue bristled shaving brush style that i4detailing sell). Occasional reapplication of Britemax Iron Max sorts out any residual iron 'spots'.

Iron-X or Iron Max products work brilliantly but are very aggressive.....if the wheels aren't too bad,for a standard wash I use Virosol,a citrus degreaser,as recommended on here....excellent also

I'm happy for any of the chemists out there to correct me but I don't think this is necessarily so. Iron Max is Ph neutral and not acid based like wonder wheels. It can be used on bodywork so can't see "aggressive" being an accurate way to describe it really. Prime use = get rid of stubborn iron deposits.

Fair enough,I was only speaking personally from my use of IronX......on one occasion I got distracted and left it on longer than recommended.....after a few washes it had still left faint drip-trails......whether it is aggressive or not I'm not sure,I'm just a bit more careful now "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool,than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
