Timed Climate new theory on not working issues

OK this is all rather Heath Robinson stuff that has given me this idea on the non-working of some timed climates.

MY12 used all last week with timed climate operation 6 days, 6 activations run full 20 mins no problems.

Sat AM put c-tek on to see if needed a charge and went straight up to 75% then took 3 hours to fully charge.

Sun AM towbar electrics activated then travelled approx 100 miles during day.

Mon AM timed climate had activated but cut out with low power sign coming up.

Decided that maybe it was due to battery being flattened by updating ccf files, even though would of thought 100 miles would of charged it.

Put c-tek on and this time only 50% battery power, took 1 hr to 75% then further 3 hrs before I had to go out.

This morn same thing battery low power warning on had activated but then cut out, would guess 10-15 mins.

Covered approx 20 miles then had chance to attach c-tek again, once again only 50% power took 1 hr to 75% left for 2 more then had to go out.

10 mile round trip then re connected c-tek battery down to 50% has now been on charge 4 3/4 hrs and still on 75%.

Surprised at last finding wondering if something in electirs when towbar activated is either fooling battery monitor it has more charge than it does, alternator putting out lower output, or a drain somewhere.

This is now acting exactly as previous MY11 was with Timed climate, which was running a Traxide dual battery setup.

If had accesss to faultmate etc eailsy would think de activating the towbar electrics would be a good way to go,see if normal operation was returned on timed climate.

As its not, wondering if others who have timed climate issues have a towbar fitted or not and if someone has access and problems, could they could try de -activating towbar electrics to see if any difference was made.

With colder mornings here have tried again.

Fully charged battery 1 activation all ok.

Travelled 150 miles set for next AM, cut out after 10 mins with low bat warning.

Is this what other people are getting Question

Would of thought 150 mile trip should of re charged battery

All I can say is that in my experience if I used the remote climate every day (I don't by a long chalk) I wouldn't make it into the next week without needing to charge. I think that the timed climate drains the battery much quicker than people think (is it because the car is awake to a degree, rather than the actual drain from the webasto?)

100 miles of driving might sound like a lot but its nothing in terms of battery charging, particularly at this time of year (lights probably on, demisters, heated seats etc etc).

Edit Sorry just read your later post - that does seem a bit odd if you were sure the battery was fully charged before you started.

I have my timed climate set for every week day morning to take my daughter to school and lately it has been firing everyday. At the moment the car is doing about 20 miles a day and am having no problems whatsoever with the battery. On my last D4 which was a MY2011 I used to get the low battery warning all the time when the timed climate was used, at the time I think it was Wiggs that said the battery monitoring software was too sensitive but I changed the car before the dealers had a chance to have a look at it Thumbs Up

That's about the mileage I do normally a day, unfortunately my daughter is not so lucky as yours Laughing

Good to hear someone has it working as it should, perhaps hope yet.

Maybe time for a battery test les? The d4 uses a massive amount of power from the battery even just with the ignition on. Vagualey remember Robbie saying to jump start one then drive it long enough to charge the battery it would need to be driven for 8 hours non stop!

i have been having issues with mine and spoke with James French about it.

new AGM battery 6 months ago.
Charge with Ctek
take off charge and immediately low batt warning, although starts fine
after 2hr run all ok

One thought they had was that the Ctek, connected direct to the battery terminals was fooling the on board diagnostic thingy. so advice was connect earth to remote earth point and see if that helps.

I must say we both agreed that it defied logic but appears to be what LR say

so i will give it a try. you might want to too

I too was told not to connect the ground to the battery by Land Rover but to connect it to another ground point, something to do with ECU's

Doesn't every company now say that to stop you blowing the battery up...some say it to protect the ecu's...but it think its more to do with the battery explosion risk

Well go figure, its working again Thumbs Up

Yesterday morning was its 6th activation after just covering 20 -25 odd mile a day, split into small journeys, and NO failures due to low battery.

Had a service previous week and know an update was done to FBH but as far as I know only for smoking issues (now on 10 a day).

Have taken some voltage readings, would seem after activation has run for full period, battery is down to around 12.2 volts from a starting point of 12.6. It appears to require at least 10 miles to replenish battery to 12.6. Readings all taken after 30 mins standing at least.

Would seem battery before was only being allowed to charge to 12.45, unless charged seperate by c tek
