Sat Nav Shark's Fin aerial
Wondering if anyone can help
I knocked the front facing part of the shark's fin aerial off my D4 (forgot to lower the suspension before reversing into a garage!)
The wiring (single wire) that connects the fin to the car is snapped but nothing else is damaged
Pentland LR in Edinburgh are quoting £350+ to order a whole new unit which has come as a bit of a shock
Is it possible to buy just the wire with connectors into the car and shark's fin unit?
Or would an auto electrician be the answer?
Has anyone else done something similar?
Thanks

Hello and welcome !.....if you don't get any joy,try Andy White (White's Auto Services) in Edinburgh....he is an Independent LR specialist and used to work for Pentland........or there is always Disco Mikey on here, works for Strathearn...either way I'm sure it shouldn't be £350+ "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Great advice and I've called Whites and will drop in to show them . Thanks for your help.
Pentland said it was the Sat Nav aerial. I said that was strange as the sat nav was still working perfectly. He said there were two ways the sat nav received a signal - the shark's fin being one of them. For tunnels he said.....

If you were impressed by the stunning new Pentland showroom (and it is very lovely) don't be alarmed when you get to Andy's....its a proper, working garage with mechanics, not "technicians" ...but be assured, they know their stuff "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Telephone and SDARS antennas.

The SDARS systems operate in the S-Band frequency range (2.3 GHz) and, as a result of the use of satellite transmission have the ability to provide CD quality audio broadcasts over very large areas (typically continents). SDARS service providers transmit a signal from their up-link facility (which is the original point of transmission of data, voice or other information through an antenna system) to a satellite where the signal is then down linked to both the terrestrial repeater network and the individual SDARS car radios.

zyrbagan,
If you read your pdf link it handily points out that SDARS (aka sirius satellite radio) is only for the North American market.
Wiggs is on the money with the DAB antenna for the UK market.
Whilst I yearn for satellite radio there is no such satellite feeding the UK so we make do with DAB!Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Wiggs,
Do you think one of these D4 DAB antennas be retro-fitted to the roof of a D3 to supply a good enough DAB signal for an after market DAB radio (like the Autodab that Flack just bought off Yogi)?
