New here - 120000 mile, TDIv6 SE, should I buy |
|
Hi all,
Looking at buying my first disco 3, very excited.
I have seen a black model SE, very tidy but has done 120000 miles. Never bought a car with that amount on the clock,
Anything to look for or should I go for less mileage.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi thanks for the reply,
its an 07, 12999 and it has service history.
Also the guy is going to do all the cam belts, it has 4 new tyres, discs and pads done at 98k.
Its a really quiet and smooth drive, no knocking or rattles. Leather is good condition too compared to some I have seen with less miles on.
Seems really nice but I didnt know whether to worry about the mileage amount.
Thanks.

120k is nothing to worry about other than the fact that the belts should have been done at 105K. I would probably be inclined to negotiate a discount for getting the belts done and arrange it yourself.
P.S get the oil pump swapped at the same time.

And as it's an 07, you may be looking at a replacement oil pump as well, assuming it's a 07MY (7A VIN).
If you buy it, I would be inclined to arrange to have the belts done yourself so that you know that oil pump has been changed. These engines are not cheap to replace when they blow-up. 2021 BMW iX3 Premier Edition in Carbon Black ⚡️🔌

Be aware that on 07 /08 MY vehicles the oil pump housing was changed to a weaker design, the timing belt tensioner is bolted to this housing and when it fractures it's goodbye engine. It can be changed for a later version. Do a search on here to find all about it.

get yourself good diagnostic tool like nanocom or IIDtoolBR and you'd be fine
go for it
if it brakes it will and no assurance will stop something from going = Murphys law

opps...yet another 07 plater...seems the auction halls are full of quite reasonable d3's...most of em are 07 plates.... I wonder why
IMHO I would go for a MY05/06 which might be echoed by quite a few long standing owners on her

1) The belts should have been done at 105k.....so you need to call the garage listed in the service book at similar mileage to confirm.
2) Discs and pads done at 98 - is that ALL round or just the front (car brakes 60% using front so do wear out quicker) so you'll need to change rear soon, if not discs certainly pads
3) Gearbox oil/pan filter to be done at 70k if towing or 100k/7 years according to latest view from ZF
4) Front & Rear Diff oil and Transfer box oil also
5) Whilst yer at it, make an appointment with yer nearest LR dealer to have it plugged in to check fault codes BEFORE COMMITING TO BUYING.
6) Have you PERSONALLY HPI'd it to check its ACTUAL history...worth while for peace of mind
Sorry you asked.......

I bought a 120,000 mile D3 (V8 HSE) and it was the best example I saw, irrespective of mileage, and I saw plenty with only 50,000.
Buy on condition and history, there are plenty of D3's with over 200,000 on the clock, and someone here has close to 600,000 I believe.

Buy on history and appearance. The milage is of no real concern.
Last one, 05 sold with almost 300000 miles. D3 SE MY55 [gone]

Thanks Guys,
I went and done it, Looking forward to it.
I checked the service history and brakes and discs done at 98k, also gearbox and diff oil changed (land rover dealer).
All the cam belts are to be done. Hope it goes ok, collecting on Tuesday.
The Condition is amazing for the mileage,
Thanks again for the invaluable info.
