Thule bike carrier regulations |
|
Does anyone know the regulations on this type of bike carrier regarding lights and reg plate? When it's on the disco the disco lights (haha) are clearly visible as is the reg plate. So no real need for additional lights... I'm wondering if it's worth getting the electrics hooked up becasue this is all i'll use the tow bar for.

They wont be so visible with two bikes on the rack, it looks like it has lights why not hook them up??
Insurance will have something to say if you get rear ended

As above the light and plate will be obscured, the fine and 3 points will be harder to swallow than the cost of the electrics which you can install yourself.
Ps must type faster. Displaced Yorkshireman.

That typing must be of glacial speeds - a 1 1/4 hour lag!!! Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Are the electrics easy to do? Is there a thread for installation on here somewhere?

If you are meaning on the vehicle then yes, it is very straightforward if you can get a genuine LR loom. It simply plugs into a multi-connector which is tucked away in the rear nearside quarter - all you have to do is remove the rear light for access, and feed the loom along the rear of the bumper.
The main dealers in Exeter had some for sale a while ago, but others may be able to advise
PS I was told the vehicle would need reprogramming to prevent reversing sensors from continually sounding (another reason to fit the electrics rather than just the carrier) but, a year on, have not needed this - the car detects when something is plugged in and switches off rear sensors. Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
