Brake pedal gets harder in very wet weather! |
|
Anyone else experience this? Last night's deluge reminded me of something that has always plagued my 08 RRS TDV6 and that is, in really wet weather the brake pedal starts to feel firmer than usual just before the actual bite of the pads. Never experienced this in any other car.
The brakes still work fine, but the extra stiffness means I have to re-learn the car's braking for the period that they behave like this, and that's not exactly confidence inspiring when I'm on a wet, windy road at night in 80-100km/h zones that are well frequented by kangaroos and fallen debris.
At ALL other times, the car's brakes behave absolutely normally, including just normal rain. It's only in times when it's so wet that there's minor flooding in low lying areas. So I'm struggling to think of a mechanical reason why this might be happening... water ingress into the brake vacuum system somehow?? The car has had the brake recall and no other issues with the brakes, and since I've had the car (over 100k km) the issue has not gotten any better or worse. 2008 RRS TDV6 - Chawton White/Black/Lined Oak - 20's, h/k, sunroof - 350K KM.

Wet disks I would think. Try touching the brakes before braking to see if it is different. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
