Disco HSE SDV6 (2011) tailgate full of water!

Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me here please.
I have fitted a spoiler onto my Disco myself, having read / watched any handy tips on fitting it.
It is a genuine LR part, and I read the instructions carefully before gluing it on. I used the same black sealer that is used by windscreen fitters (very strong bond) as advised by many who have fitted these.
I fitted this part soon after buying the vehicle (2011) so it's been on since approx July 12.
I thought I had put plenty of sealer on to create a watertight bond....but after 18 months it appears that I possibly didn't!
I now have quite a loud "sloshing" noise coming from the back end when going around a bend.
I have listened carefully while opening both doors, but I can't hear anything.
Also when I close the top tailgate down sometimes I get a strong flow of water dripping down on the inside of the rear window for a few seconds.
The water MUST be in one of the tailgate doors surely, not unless it has collected in the spoiler itself.
I know I need to re seal around the edges, but I really do need to empty the water from wherever it is lying!
Has anyone had this problem, and if so how did you deal with it?
Thanx. :0((

As you know, to fit the rear spoiler, you have to remove the original hi-line brake light and it's a knocking bet this is where your problem is.
The spoiler is a self contained, sealed unit and would easily hold water should it find it's way in there.
You might end up drilling a small hole in the underside of the spoiler to investigate. Rolling Eyes
Is the sloshing worse if you move the upper tailgate up and down??
On the other hand, if water was getting into the hole where the hi-line brake was, it would gather inside the rear trim which would explain why you have a shower down the inside of the rear window.
Once you've drained the water out, run a good bead of sealant around the upper spoiler where it attaches. Thumbs Up

Hi Narpy,
Thanks for the suggestions. I have moved the top tailgate up and down, but hear nothing. Before I drill a hole or two in the spoiler I think I'll get my wife to drive the car, and I'll crouch in the back to see if I can pinpoint the sound.
Do you know of a good sealer to use, as I won't need a whole tube of the stuff, and I don't want to
Go and purchase the original fixing sealant that was used as it is quite expensive, and will be wasted.
Once again thanks for the advice.

Your plan to have a listen whilst somebody else drives sounds a very good idea. Thumbs Up
I sealed my rear spoiler with the same adhesive I used to stick it down which was Tiger Seal.
To be honest though, because you're only looking to bead the edge of the spoiler any decent quality bathroom grade silicon should suffice. Wink

I suspect water is getting in under the bit that replaces the hi-line brake light as the rest of the spoiler doesn't allow a route for moisture to get in to the upper tailgate.
You can always get the hosepipe out to confirm. Wink
