Brakes on D4

Sorry if this has been posted on here before.

When I had my D3 I upgraded the discs to grooved and vented and they were brilliant, my D4 brakes don't seem to be a patch on these......

Can I change the discs on my D4 for grooved and vented discs.

Fell like I have to really push pedal at times to get the car to stop

Would be grateful for any info on this thanks

Fronts on D4 are bigger than D3 so it should stop better. They are already vented and as Dan says dont usually have an issue bringing the beast to a halt.
You don't say what age is your D4 is as they do still wear quite quickly (depending on driving style / type of course) so may need to be replaced if warn or pitted.
Mine were replaced at 50k

D4 discs are the same size as RRS Brembo discs (same as I have fitted) and the pads have a similar surface area.

Personally, I would be trying another set of pads. A cheap compound will give poor braking effort Thumbs Up

Brakes on a D4 are very very good so you have a problem.

It could be pads but from your brief description I would be suspicious of the braking system itself.

Thanks for that. Its a 10 plate and done 55k. I normally just do town driving as i am a childminder and some long runs. Might try new pads and see if that helps.

No, get your brakes checked properly.

Worn pads can make the pedal travel excessive but still check the pedal travel.

If the pedal 'pumps-up' you have air in the system so look for a cause. Check for damaged brake pipes and check the brake calipers. Check the brake vacuum pipe for air leaks and check the brake vacuum pump and brake booster. Check the fluid level too.

If the pedal sinks to the floor when held under pressure when there are no external leaks you have a master cylinder fault.

+1 to what Robbie says , but would also get the discs checked as they may be down to their min thickness.
Town driving = lots of braking

a simple check is .... is there a significant 'lip' on the outer edge of the disk > 1mm? If so, they may well be worn beyond recommended limits and need replacing Thumbs Up

Mine squeal like mad when reversing first thing in the morning but always stop the car. Anyone know if there's a fix or TSB for the squealing ? Farrell's have shamfered the pads way back in2010 but not much better and they basically say "that's the way they are". Seem to last ok as I've done 15k miles and only 40% worn.

Did they apply any Copperslip to the backs of the pads before they fitted them. Whip them out and have a look but I'd clean the backs and apply the CS to them anyway. Obviously, you don't want any on the face of the pad, just the rear of the metal - HTH?

Just about to order some pads for mine

Is changing them the same as the D3, i.e calipers in carriers, or is the front set up ala RRS Brembo (mines a 3Ltr not a 2.7) with the calipers bolted directly to the hub?

And, I'm hoping there's no special winding in tool needed for pushing the pistons back in.
