EGR blanking kit for D3 with an 7A chassis number. |
|
Folks, I've just been into Landrover who have offered to replace the faulty EGR valves on my Disco for the princely sum of £900! I'm thinking therefore of just blanking them off and was just about to order a kit from Bell Autos when I noticed that they specify that their kits work on cars with 5A and 6A chassis numbers but typically mine has a 7A chassis number which they specifically say the kit doesn't work on. Has anybody found a supplier that has a suitable blanking kit?
Cheers!

If you try to blank the EGRs on an 07 and later vehicle, you'll get a warning light on the dash, which is an MOT failure. Still waiting the updates to resolve this I think. Mods:
Front Fogs + Halos
FBH Remote Control
The 1st Ever RRS Modded Grill
Garmin Nuvi + D4 Surround + Reversing Camera.
D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.
Twin Brake Lights.
Wing Mirror Indicator Repeaters.
Long Roof Rails

I'm not scared, I'm outta here.

why not try an independant garage, must be cheaper, doesnt have to be done by Landrover. IDTOOL PRO / Faultmate programing and BAS remaping services in Norway.
Diagnostic for most Land rover vehicles
Land Rover parts and accessories.
Stockist of RLD equipment.

Chaps, thanks for the quick replies. My Disco is a 56 plate and so typically must be one of the first 7A engines? I am guessing that this means it's a euro4 engine hence the problem.
It looks like I will need to get it done elsewhere. As it happens my brother has an independent garage and so looks like he'll be getting the business although probably would have just blanked them if that was an option as it sounds like the best and easiest thing to do in the long term.
Thanks again for all the advice. Appreciated.

Hi just a thought as I had exactly the same problem as you and was quoted £600 by an Indy - but have you tried using 2 stroke oil in the fuel (loads of info about it on here)? It has totally bought the EGRs back to life and cleared the check engine light. Also, clean the MAP sensor, also plenty on here. My Disco is running really well now. Finally, when you turn the engine off, listen under the bonnet for the EGRs doing their self-clean - you should hear them both clicking independently which is correct.

My D3 is on an 07 plate but is a 6A build! You need to read the VIN to be sure what is powering your D3. Let's hope it's a 2006MY, for several reasons...

Thanks Chaps,
Mine's defo a 7A, checked the vin number earlier.
I'm not sue if the EGR Valves are completely goosed though as it still runs ok just now and again goes into limp mode but then seems ok when I turn it off and turn it on again.
Reckon I'll try the trick with the 2 stroke oil and see how that pans out....
Worst comes to the worse I'll buy the valves and get my bro to fit them. Best price a can see on line seems to be about £200 a pop for the valves and so still not cheap, if anyone knows where's good to get the valves please let me know,
Cheers!

Just another thought chaps, in addition or instead of perhaps adding 2 stroke, what are people's thoughts on running the Disco exclusively on "Ultimate" diesel. I'm reading a lot about the difference between standard and ultimate being the additional engine cleaning additives that are put back in that some, especially supermarkets, strip out to save money.
Does anybody have any experience or any views?
Cheers!

Ouch, sorry to hear that mate. Landrover have said that mine need to be replaced and that is what has caused me to go into limp mode a couple of times recently. Not totally convinced so hoping to get them back in shape before taking the it on replacing them

Mine went ito limp mode and stayed in limp mode and that was it, I've spent alot of money on my Disco since I got her in July , but every penny has been worth it and my biggest problem is what would I drive that would be like it if I sold her . In my eyes nothing else( well maybe a Range rover or a Disco 4).
I will try and keep her for as long as possible even if she bankrupts me lol 1997 BMW R1100GS

Yep, they are fabulous cars and they are also liable to bankrupt you! Whenever anything ever goes wrong with ours it's always a grand to fix!
