I've just been to TX and LA ...

Folks ...

I've just spent a few weeks in TX and LA and apart from having a storming good time I was chuffed to see the number of Landies on the road.

Question - y'all seem to have a bump above the tail-gate that I don't have on my car; is this the satellite radio antenna?

Funny thing - I was walking across a car park at the Quarry Mall in San Antonio and I saw an LR3 parked in a 'Compact Car' space - very Texan ...

Now I'm back in the Middle East I've got terrible chips-dip-and-Dos-Equis cold turkey. I just loved it there and can't wait to get back.

If you are talking about this bump

Yes, I believe that's the omni-antenna for satellite radio and the integrated phone kit. The GPS antenna is in enclosed in the plastic just above the top brake light.

That Pimple ONLY houses the LR Phone Ariel, and additionally the SatNav ariel is already housed there. If you want one, you can buy a Fake one on ebay

GPS receiver for the SatNav is in the hight level brake light housing, not the roof 'bump'

That's the bump in the picture alright.

I don't think cars in the UK have the likes of XM Radio or Worldspace integrated into the in-car entertainment, and down here I've hacd a portable satellite radio unit for a number of years that has an aerial that magnetizes to the roof, if there were any iron in it (I strap it to the roof-rack).

Thanks for the up date.

Nope - in North America, and where fitted, it also houses both a satellite and terrestrial digital radio antenna (SDARS) - as well as the PTI antenna. Whistle

do you have a phone cradle connection in the lid of the centre storage /arm rest/fridge thing, if not then phone is bluetooth only and no fin is required Thumbs Up

Ahhh! Nope no cradle in mine, So the bump is a booster arial for a cell phone or a true satelite phone connection? Which means at the moment my phone signal is operating as normal just through bluetoth to the sound system?
Strange the signal always seem very good Exclamation

Did you read the other replies to this thread? Whistle

The bump is only used for the 'wired' PTI kit with the cradle in the cubby box - just for GSM type phones - nothing to do with satellite phones. In North Amercian markets it also houses digital radio antennas, but not for UK markets as they are US-only systems.

If you don't have a cradle, then as SN says, you have a bluetooth PTI kit fitted (either from factory or a post-delivery fit). This does not include or need the roof fin.

The GPS antenna is hidden in the 3rd brake light and has nothing to do with the roof fin (or lack of it).

Your phone is working via bluetooth to the phone kit/audio system and is using it's own internal antenna.
