recommended tyre thread during winter?

just had an email from my car insurance company in reguard to winter driving with a little quiz.

This question had me thinking

According to a well known car breakdown service provider,

what is the recommended tyre thread during winter?

4mm?
10mm?
3mm?

I now know there supposed awnser.

But how many others do?
 RRSport MY12hse but don't hold that against lill o me
Hybrid TV, cubby Fridge, Surround Camera's, Sun Roof.

Disco 3 MY05hse Sadly gone

All alone in my own little world,
But everybody knows me there, so I'm ok.

They say anything below 3mm is bad in rain. As above it cant be 10mm as road tyres are only 8mm brand new.

I'd say the more tread you have the better so would go with 4mmas my answer
 Current: D3 TDV6 S; GGAT's, DIY 7inch Tablet mount, DIY Reversing Camera, Stage 1 remap, EGR delete

Previous: Freelander TD4, D2 V8, D1 TDI, Series 3 Petrol plus Numerous performance cars!

Generally change mine at 3mm for "normal" cars, usually more for the D3.

Maby thats why there in the insurance buisness & not tyres

A Minimum tread of 3mm would make sence, but not a recommended tread of 3mm

Winter tyres in particular cease to be effective below 4mm due to the fine, shallow wipes cut into the tread blocks Thumbs Up
 I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
