Engine would not stop (I think).

Hi all, nice weather we're having (major storm just stated here in Dublin so watch out Britain).
I pulled into a garage the other day and I couldn't seem to stop the engine or remove the keys. It was a bit of a blur as I started to panic. It was in N but the key just wouldn't turn to the off position. I drove off and stopped later and everything was fine (the key sometimes seems to get stuck but never prevents me stopping the engine). Any ideas what it could have been or was I doing something wrong? Thanks.

As far as I know you can only take the key out in Park... 26 and on the 4th LR..

Have you tried greasing the gearbox linkage?
