Roof lights
I'm a new member and have just taken delivery of a new XS. Have to say this is my fourth Disco, having previously owned 3 D2's and am a keen off-road enthusiast. Managed to persuade my wife that the XS came complete with the G4 Expedition roof-rack as standard and the intention is to sneak the rest of the G4 accessories onto it when she's not looking!
Can anyone advise me as to how the lights are fitted to the rack - and more importantly, how the wiring is brought through the roof? My local dealership and, indeed, the LR customer "care" centre are clueless and tell me that their technicians don't know because G4 is nothing to do with LR!! Any tips would be appreciated since it looks as if I am going to have to explain to local LR technicians how it should be done!
Thanks.
I thought about adding lights to mine but to be honest, the xenons are so good, it would be just for cosmetic reasons so I didn't do it. also reckon they would add loads to wind noise which is not too bad with an empty expo rack
better spend the cash on a mantec plate imho2007 HSE Java Black.....sold

Think your dealer should look at the Land Rover Partner's site more often! G4 is a totally sponsored event by Land Rover and all vehicles are modified at the Gaydon site by Veh Opp's!
The wiring for the lights runs along the front edge of the rack and into the Mantec snorkel. Cables then run down the snorkel and come out through a grommet sealed with silicon inside the engine bay either in or near the air filter box. If fitting the Warn lamps then some odd shaped holes need cutting in the front plastic of the rack to hopefully access the mounting lugs... You need to see one done really before cutting!
Hope that is of help... Richard.
If you want your lights wired up TFC's your man (and very reasonable rates too!)The End

Lightforce 140's / 170's are the way to go, cabling run up the side of the tailgate with waterproof connectors (yep, you're the beta-test Gareth ) means you can remove the rack & lights with minimum fuss 8)
Sounds good, I can see a modification to mine coming on
Though I have been having other ideas about light positions......The End

Erm, Sorry TFC, but maybe Slimer could be the Guinea pig?. I have modified the rack and the lights are not fitted at the moment. Fuel consumption was down to 20mpg with the lights and full height rack.
Now the lights are off, and I've removed the girder work and the air dam from the front and sides of the rack its back up to 26mpg 8) and its still a useful rack.
I have to say, the LR rack looks cool with just its base fitted. I post a pic tomorrow.
I'm waiting on delivery of a roof mount light bar for Betsy, so I can mount the LF 140's, then I'll come and see you regarding upgrading the electrics etc. I'm going for a PTO winch, so nothing too elaborate required.

Thanks for all the responses - I think I can see the way forward now. Fully appreciate that G4 is sponsored by LR - but it's a pity that the 'young lady' at LR Customer "Care" isn't aware. Incidentally, it is impossible to speak to a technician there, because they're "not customer-facing"!! Think my best option is to pay a visit to Duckworth's at Market Rasen - a dealership full of enthusiasts who in the past, have only been too happy to assist with my 'unusual' requests!
