Booking my car in for the 7 year 105k service & the kits they use are made by Gates, should I ask for them to get the genuine lr kit or are these just as good?

...are a very clued up provider of multi vee & toothed belts...not an unviable option - a world class company. BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics

Gates is still my prefered option, The vast majority of the kits we sell are Gates and have done so for many years, the majority of Gates timing belts for Europe are made in the UK (Dumfries) and they have without a doubt the best warranty back up available, they do not guarantee for a fixed period. i.e 1 or 2 years, their guarantee is to duplicate the OEM guarantee against manufacturing defect, so in the case of a D3 105,000 or 7 years. If things should go wrong they have field technical guys (not reps) to visit the engine and assist in the strip down to determine the cause of failure. I have never had a successful claim but to be fair if the engineer is on site he would only be rejecting when a fitment or other cause issue has been found and in these cases it is hard for the garage to disagree.
24,000 employees world wide (400 in Dumfries), OE fitment belt market split between Dayco, Gates & Continental. Gates sold 5 million kits on the aftermarket in Europe between 2011 & 2013.....get the idea!
We also stock the Dayco just for the Discovery as it was original fit.
We also stock INA / Continental kits to give the full OE level line up.
We do this as there are often some back order issues with the D3 belts from each of the suppliers, also Dayco are currently the only one of these 3 to sell the 2007 onwards pump belt. Paul Redding
