doors stuck shut in cold weather

Gents

Last winter I had the embarressing situation of not being able to get into the D3 on a really cold day, and ended up having to take the kids Pug 206 instead. So I've this really great 4x4 I couldnt use Big Cry Big Cry

It unlocked OK, but all the door seals had frozen stuck to the body, so if I'd have wrenched them open I'd have wrecked the seals. During the cold days last week, it was stuck again, although this time, it did eventually let go. Last time round, once open, I applied some silicon spray - is this/was this the best thing to use. I didnt want to use any "grease" (vaseline/etc) as if you brush past the door, I didnt want this on any clothing.

With the forecast cold snap coming round this week, is it the silicon again??

Cheers
Al

wouldn't something like auto glym vinyl and rubber care do the trick?

used to use this on my mini where the seals were quite exposed and it stopped the contact points freezing together Thumbs Up

They'd both "greasy" so would probably work, but also both won't be good on your clothes. Maybe something more like a detergent would work and wouldn't be an issue for your clothes, washing up liquid just lightly wiped around the seals might work? Just a thought and not an answered based on experience!

Im a big fat heavy Censored and just simply pull mine until they give in!!

Also my door seals long since separated from the door so i guess this helps provide gaps too!

Thumbs Up

Well as the sun was out, I've just been and done a wipe round with some silicon - should know later in the week (even tomorrow) if the weather forecasters are right, whether this has worked or not.

well, doors open without a hitch this morning, car completely covered in frost. I guess I'll have to do this regularly throughout the winter.

We use silicon over here, tested and works at -32.

Just repeat it after a month or so.
