Power steering issues

Hi all.

My steering started to feel a little different a little while ago. Felt heavy some points whilst turning and soft at others.

I had someone drain the power steering fluid at the rack and refill etc as fluid was brown so thought may help but if anything it feels slightly worse.

Does anyone have any idea what could cause the stiffness feeling when turning (it's hard to explain).

Its a 55 plate discovery 3 2.8 if this helps.

Steering column universal joint, worth a search it seems quite common on the D3.

Bottom UJ on the steering column seizing up . Just replaced mine, made a world of difference See

Does it get stiff when the engine warms up ?


Fluid should be green "cold climate fluid"

Thanks for this i'll have a google on the universal joint. If its this is it an easy job to change?

Pete K it stays the same when cold or warm. i put in standard power steering fluid. is this not correct?
