hi as a new person to this site i am some what confused as to some of the advice given (all good i`am sure). however I am in the lucky position to purchase a disco3 used (not that lucky) i have looked at alot of the threads here reading about latest upgades etc but are there any bad points to look for that dont leap out at you when looking for one? i feel that i will purchase from a main dealer but am told you pay more, but do the benifits out way buying private. i done alot of home work since Jan on this but a think and hope you get a more honest opinion from owners rather then salesmen. i`ve been looking at a 55 hse diesal in bonetti grey thats only done 8000 its up for 34k do you think this is to much money for a sconed hand car? idealy i would only want to spend 30k as i have to buy a caravan aswell.
hope i can get some straight forward adivce on what to look for.
regards Ian lovin it

D3 is a supremely capable beast. Towing won't be an issue.
As for dealer/private - well either is good. Dealer won't give you anything on a trade in and you will be paying book price. However you know who to go back to if you buy it from a dealer if something goes wrong.
My advice whould be - look at the specs and make sure that the stuff that you need (not want) is in the spec. Look around at private and dealer websites and compare. You also need to compare against different parts of the country as prices will vary. Search this site "for sale" and "site sponsors" and you might just find what you need.
Also look at servicing costs - as these also vary across the country.
I'd also go for one with the longest warranty - not that i think it's going to go wrong, but purely for that piece of mind.
But buy one, and enjoy it and welcome to the board.

I just bought an 06 HSE Bonatti from a main dealer about 2 months ago. I had a 94 Landcruiser 4.2TD VX to px and they offered me initially £3,250 against a £36,999 ex demo model. I argued the toss for about an hour and eventually said If you want the deal it's my L/C and 32,000 or I walk now. If you agree I'll give you £500 now and cash when I collect. They tore my arm off!
Push them hard and wave the deposit under their nose, tell them you have another to look at and you don't want to be mucked about. Threaten to walk etc etc.
They'll do a deal.
My L/C had been up for sale at £3k for about 5 weeks and couldn't shift it.
Bit of a result for me to get rid IMHO.
FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!
D4 HSE 2012 Like a second wife, more expensive but goes better! I almost cried this time!
D3 HSE 2006 (Almost 8 years together, true love)
Land Cruiser VX 1994 11 years together, wife cried when I p/ex'd for my D3

The whole thing is run by ECU's and LR release updates quite often (well less so these days). A good dealer would always ensure your D3 is up to date software wise and do upgrades during regular services or warranty visits.
