Alternator Failure?

So, I was driving up the M3 this morning when the battery light came on. Big Cry

Fortunately, I was only a few miles from home and came off at the next exit and headed back home. The battery light went off for a while but came on again soon after and remained on all the way home after that. Heated seats continued to work as did the stereo and lights.

Parked-up on the drive and measured the voltage across the battery with the engine still running. It was reading 13.20v at idle which is obviously quite a bit less than the 14.20v it was showing a couple of weeks ago when I posted this photo:

There were no other symptoms but have left the D3 at home today awaiting delivery of my new alternator kit from Advanced Factors (thanks, Steve) Thumbs Up

Harwoods Land Rover in Basingstoke (kind of on my way home) quoted me almost £400 for the same alternator and they didn't even have one in stock Shocked .

I guess after 98k miles and 6.5 years the original one has not done too badly.

This happened because I was only telling NJSS, yesterday, how reliable mine has been. Laughing

I'll be following Andy's excellent guide to replace it tomorrow. Thumbs Up
