Manual gearbox problems

Anyone had a manual gearbox replaced? Ours is whining in any gear (more noticeable at low speeds) and has trouble engaging some gears (started with 1st and 2nd, now getting worse on others). It's been suggested to me that it's the layshaft bearing, but I assume an exchange will be needed.

I had a replacement Manual Gearbox on a previous D3, about £3000 I think.

It was recovered with clutch slipping issues and needed new XYZ sensor, clutch and flywheel.

The dealer then said the gearbox was making 'some noise' and needed a new one. This was done under the LR select warranty but I never heard the 'noise'.

Personally I think they were fishing for work under warranty.

@ discojunior: Thanks. Ours is DEFINITELY making a noise! It also won't be under warranty Sad

@ Disco_Mikey: That's interesting. I bet they're not around at that price over here! I can see either a trip to the UK coming on, or perhaps see how much Big Dave can ship me one for Thumbs Up Any chance you could PM me any sources?

Didn't doubt it for a moment mate! It could still be FAR cheaper than buying one over here I think!

Just had to buy another wheel while I was in England too!

Maybe we should start a LR parts import company?

Now there's an idea! Could work given the markup on some of the stuff here.

I'm sure that would be a relief in your line of work!

@Disco_Mikey: How many hours work is it to change the manual box?

My box is also whining, changed the oil at the weekend, very thin looking and has a very strong bunt smell. is there anything like Dr Tranny that you could put in it or is it all over ?
You only get one lap, make it count !!

The recommended service interval is every 10 years or after 150,000 miles whichever is soonest. Must admit, I've been meaning to change the gearbox oil in mine for a while now. Got a couple of new plugs in my last order from TLO.

When I bought the car, the LR salesperson told me it was "sealed for life" Rolling with laughter

Not an additive, but I shall probably put some of this in mine when I change the oil (cheaper than the LR BOT 338 which is about £40 a litre Shocked ):

What does Disco_Mikey put in manual boxes (or have you not done one yet)?
