Anybody removed door mouldings? |
|
I'm thinking of removing the door mouldings (the ones halfway up the door) I assume they may have been on from new and I think they are usually applied with double sided tape. I'm just wondering if anyone has removed them as I'm worried it may mark/damage the paintwork, I know they can always be put back on but thought I'd ask in advance

Hi,
Assuming door panel/s haven't any signs of repair or repaint, i'd use Fishing line in a sawing motion to cut the mouldings off the door, then either a hairdryer or heat gun to remove the tape thats left, then any residue i'd use Autoglym Intense Tar Remover, wash the door down, then polish and wax!

I took a set off my damaged door when I replaced it with a less battered one that didn't have them and fitted them to that.
I just used a heat gun on the lowest setting to warm the moulding and slid some nylon fishing line behind to get them off.
To fit them I cleaned all the old tape off using meths and dried them. Cleaned and dried the door and them warmed it with the heat gun.
I used 'No Nails' red (exterior) tape - no worries months on. I see no ships........

You may well find on removal that the colour has faded on the doors and that you now have a stripe of darker colour. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill.
